STRING

Over the past few years, I have helped artists bring high-quality strings to their music (live/recording). Whether it's by writing the parts completely myself, or through collaboration, we can find a process that matches your budget and work-style.

What affects the cost of your services?

Many factors affect this, such as the complexity of the arrangement, how much of the track contains strings, how much original input I'm giving, and then of course what level of production you want (ranging from sample libraries programmed from my home studio up to a full string orchestra in a recording studio). There's an option for almost every price point.

FAQ

Can the client give feedback and request revisions during the process?

Of course! It can be a flexible process, and hearing their thoughts throughout increases the likelihood of a better end product. Being able to show demos of the arrangement really helps guarantee that the client feels happy and comfortable from an early stage.

Do you only arrange for strings?

I've also done some brass work, and have the facilities to arrange for any instrument. Sometimes I like to suggest other instruments to find what's best for the song.

What is your musical background?

I've played the viola for 13 years, and across that time have played in full orchestras, string orchestras, bands and other music projects. I also studied an undergraduate degree in Music at the University of Surrey, achieving a First-Class Honours, so have a comprehensive knowledge of the theory behind arranging. Additionally, I've played other people's arrangements for artists in studio and location recording sessions.

What format are the end-products provided in?

  • Live Players Audio: WAV files with a sample rate of 44.1kHz (higher at artist's request). I will provide a submix of what I feel is the best balance, as well as individual stems from the mics that were used for the recording session, so your mix engineer has the option of having full control.

  • Sample Library Audio: I can provide stems as WAV files with a sample rate of 44.1kHz (or 48kHz upon request). I provide an audio file of my own submix of all parts combined in what I feel is the best balance, along with individual instrument stems to give your mix engineer the choice of having more control. At the client's request, I can also provide stems of each microphone position per instrument (e.g. close, tree, ambient).

  • Sheet Music: PDFs of the full score and individual parts produced on Avid Sibelius 7
